Dr Emer Nestor has over 18 years experience within the higher education sector. She holds both the Associate and Licentiate teaching diplomas in piano from the Royal Irish Academy of Music under Professor Réamonn Keary. Her postgraduate qualifications illustrate a diverse breadth of musicological and interdisciplinary knowledge. Her Masters degree in Historical Studies focuses on the editing of Early Music and her thesis investigates ecclesiastical attitudes towards seventeenth-century Anglican Church music in Britain and Ireland. In 2013 Emer completed her doctoral studies on nineteenth-century Russian music and philosophical hermeneutics with a dissertation entitled ‘Reinterpreting Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet through Hermeneutic Windows‘. She has been invited to lecture on this topic at both national and international level.

For 13 years Emer taught Piano, Theory, Practical Musicianship and Writing Skills at Maynooth University, where she also worked as an examiner and administrator.

From 2015 to 2018, Emer was the editor of the international online classical music journal, Final Note Magazine, which she founded with Arts photographer Frances Marshall. As an experienced music journalist, she is in constant demand by Arts agencies and performers for her skills as an interviewer, reviewer and writer. Recent projects and commissions have included artist biographical notes, concert program notes, press releases and album liner notes.

Emer is currently engaged in a research project at Maynooth University, in which she is monitoring and evaluating the recently reformed undergraduate curriculum.
